Sprint introduces 2013 Miss Sprint Cup lineup

first_imgHUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — With only 28 days left until the green flag drops for The Sprint Unlimited At Daytona, Sprint today unveiled the complete 2013 Miss Sprint Cup lineup to the more than 1 million Miss Sprint Cup followers on Facebook and Twitter. Newcomer Brooke Werner (Granville, Vt.) will join returning members Kim Coon (Orlando, Fla.) and Jaclyn Roney (Ann Arbor, Mich.) this season.Miss Sprint Cup represents the Sprint brand around the track and in Victory Lane wherever the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competes. The three representatives also serve as the fans’ “friend on the inside,” delivering behind-the-scenes updates, pictures and videos via Facebook and Twitter, while highlighting Sprint products and offers.Hailing from the “Green Mountain State,” Werner adds a Northern charm to the Miss Sprint Cup lineup. The former Miss Vermont USA stuck to her hometown roots while growing up by hiking the Green Mountains and listening to bluegrass music. When she isn’t at the racetrack, Werner enjoys snow skiing, antiquing and watching old movies. After receiving her degree in public relations from Champlain College, Werner worked at a nationally recognized youth-marketing agency, where she served on the community committee, helping to coordinate donations to regional non-profit organizations.“It’s truly an honor to be selected to wear the Miss Sprint Cup fire suit this year,” said Werner. “Kim, Jaclyn and the rest of the Miss Sprint Cup legacy have done an amazing job of bringing fans closer to the sport, and the opportunity to be a part of that is incredibly exciting. I’m looking forward to meeting all of the race fans at The Sprint Unlimited Experience and, of course, my first Victory Lane!”Coon returns for her third season as Miss Sprint Cup, which makes the former marketing and public relations professional the veteran member of this year’s lineup. “Last year was such a great season, filled with lots of fun and exciting experiences,” said Coon. “I went skydiving, hunted for rattlesnakes, drove on an off-road course, helped host NASCAR After The Lap and met tons of amazing fans. I’m looking forward to making many more memories this season.”Rounding out the 2013 lineup is Roney, who is entering her third season as Miss Sprint Cup. The Eastern Michigan University grad joined the program in July 2011 and is looking forward to another thrilling season of racing.“Being Miss Sprint Cup for the past two seasons has allowed me to encounter such amazing opportunities,” Roney said. “Each race weekend is so different and I count my blessings each morning when we head to the track. There are only three tracks I haven’t been to yet — Kentucky, Watkins Glen and Darlington — and I hope to mark those off my NASCAR bucket list this season.” The program has gained tremendous recognition among race fans and industry members, with the Miss Sprint Cup representatives greeting thousands of fans every race weekend at The Sprint Unlimited Experience, Sprint’s mobile marketing display. Thanks to their engaging personalities and knowledge of the sport, the Miss Sprint Cup lineup serves as popular interview subjects among local media looking to get an insider’s view on the activities surrounding race weekends. As the Miss Sprint Cup program’s popularity has grown, they now regularly participate in charity events and appear at other NASCAR sponsors’ events. In all, the Miss Sprint Cup representatives took part in more than 900 media interviews and appearances in 2012.Follow Miss Sprint Cup on Facebook at Facebook.com/MissSprintCup or Twitter @MissSprintCup. Burning Man Acquires Nearby 3,800-Acre Ranch For Year-Round Gatherings

first_imgWhat started as an intimate counterculture gathering became a major phenomenon, as Burning Man continues to attract new attendees on an annual basis. With the clear need for expansion, a mysterious group of donors has contributed over $6 million for the festival to purchase the nearby Fly Ranch in Gerlach, NV. Fly Ranch has 3,800 acres of land, and will eventually be opened by Burning Man for year-round gatherings.According to a video posted by Burning Man, “The site opens the door to new possibilities, new cultural experiments, and year-round art and innovation projects on a scale never before envisioned. And like Black Rock City, Fly Ranch will be a collaborative endeavor requiring a vast array of skills, ideas, and contributions… Fly Ranch is the next step in the grand experiment that is Burning Man.”Watch their video showcasing the new land, below.Interestingly, Burning Man does not own Black Rock Desert where the current festival is held annually, and pays $4 million for a permit to the site. It’s the largest such permit in America. Fly Ranch has been in the sights of Burning Man for years now, and the purchase of the new land paves the way for the festival’s expansion.“Our intention in the longer term is to have it more accessible or available, but we have a lot of work to do before we host anyone or anything there,” said spokeswoman Megan Miller. The land is currently undeveloped, but the plan for a year-round event should certainly motivate Burning Man’s staff to get the job done.[H/T Reno Gazette-Journal]last_img read more

first_imgAfter spending two glorious nights in Asheville, The String Cheese Incident brought their summer tour to the Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta, GA for an all out party last night. The first of the two night Atlanta run was on point, as the band opened up with a “Close Your Eyes” that jammed its way into Flatts & Scruggs’ “Doin’ My Time” to get the show rolling. The jams continued throughout the night, including lengthy versions of “Betray The Dark,” “Xai Xai,” “Rhythm of the Road,” and the set closer “Stop, Drop, Roll.” It was only more of the same heat in the second frame, with a great “Bumpin’ Reel” to kick things off. Almost every song in the second set clocked in past 10 minutes, including “Dirk,” “Windy Mountain” > “Freedom Jazz Dance,” a great jammed out “Shine” that went into Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy For The Devil,” and a set-closing “Rosie.”For their encore, the band welcomed out banjoist Tony Furtado to join them on a great “Restless Wind” to close the night! Watch Oteil And Kofi Burbridge Jam Out With Soulive On “So Live!” In 2014

first_imgOteil and Kofi Burbridge are simply incredible musicians. Oteil has held it down for years as the ultimate bassist, playing in the Aquarium Rescue Unit and the Allman Brothers Band for years before joining Dead & Company in 2015, and his brother Kofi has been a go-to musical partner of Derek Trucks in both the Derek Trucks Band and Tedeschi Trucks Band for the past seventeen years. Oteil’s skills on the bass are unrivaled, and Kofi’s ability to switch between keyboard, flute, and vocals have made him a true ace in the hole. When the Burbridge brothers are not crushing it in their own bands, they are two of the best musical guests that any band could ask for. They are both adventurous and confident players that bring their “A game” each time they step on stage. Perhaps that’s why they mix so well with the musical geniuses of Soulive. The Burbridge brothers have joined Soulive on stage at Brooklyn Bowl during their Bowlive concert series a number of times. Oteil and Kofi were reliable guests at Bowlive, turning in standout guest spots each year they joined in on the funky festivities. One of their most awesome appearances came in 2014, when Oteil and Kofi joined Soulive for an extra-funky take on “So Live!”. Kofi leads the charge with an excellent flute solo, before guitarist Eric Krasno blasts off with his own scorching solo. Oteil fits perfectly with the rhythm section before launching into a jazzy solo of his own. See below to experience the funky goodness of Oteil and Kofi with Soulive for yourself.Watch Oteil and Kofi Burbridge sit in with Soulive on 3/21/2014 at Brooklyn Bowl during Bowlive, courtesy of YouTube user Barry2theBIt’s no wonder that four of these five musicians, including the Burbridge Brothers and the Evans Brothers – Neal Evans and Alan Evans – will be joining forces as the All Brothers Band. Though on-stage collaborations between the family musicians have happened in the past, the four hit the studio earlier this year to record a mysterious EP. They’ll make their live debut as the All Brothers Band at Brooklyn Comes Alive, playing on October 22nd as part of a unique lineup that features members of The String Cheese Incident, The Disco Biscuits, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, Lettuce, Medeski Martin & Wood, Snarky Puppy, Primus, RatDog, Dopapod, and so many more. For details about Brooklyn Comes Alive, head here!last_img read more

first_imgJoe Russo spent the weekend in Colorado, performing three nights in three cities with his band Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. The party didn’t stop there, however, as members of Almost Dead reunited as Bustle In Your Hedgerow for an intimate performance on Sunday night, December 18th. The “Bustle” band consists of Russo, Dave Dreiwitz, Marco Benevento and Scott Metzger – basically everyone from Almost Dead except for Tom Hamilton. While Almost Dead focuses on the music of the Grateful Dead, Bustle In Your Hedgerow is, predictably, all Led Zeppelin. The show was a combined celebration for the Binske Holiday Party and Russo’s 40th birthday, which he celebrated on the 18th. Though Bustle shows have become rarities, due to the overwhelming demand of Almost Dead, this was quite the performance! The band opened with “Song Remains The Same” and featured hits from Zeppelin’s entire catalog in their extended set.Fortunately, thanks to taper Ted Rockwell, we can listen in on full audio from this masterful performance. Enjoy!last_img read more
